Marc Rutenberg’s history in the homebuilding industry started in 1955 when his parents, the late Charles Rutenberg and Isadora Rutenberg, moved from Chicago, Illinois to Clearwater, Florida.  Then, a small and beautiful retirement town, known for citrus, its beaches, and tourism, Charles, with his brother Arthur, and later joined by his son Marc, began one of the most impactful and meaningful careers in Florida’s homebuilding history.

In 1969, after many years of success in Florida, Charles and Arthur merged their Florida homebuilding operations with U.S. Home and Development Corporation - now known as US Home. Under Charles’ leadership, the company grew quickly to become the largest homebuilder in the United States.  By 1975 US Home had operations in sixteen states and had taken the Rutenberg’s Florida perspective and business acumen into most every major housing market in the country.

After Marc finished college in Berkeley California, he joined his father’s building companies.  Watching Marc’s success and growing maturity, Charles had Marc take over the reins of his newly started condominium business.  Marc later went on to lead the Homes for Young America initiative and produce some of the most innovative architectural work ever introduced. His design for Homes for Young America was youthful, energetic, and architecturally dynamic.  Its success was immediate.  First introduced in 1987, within 2 years, Marc’s newly created single family businesses were delivering over 300 homes annually.  Homes for Young America had gained national attention.

In 1991, Marc relinquished control of Charles’ housing companies, stepping out to form his own business, Marc Rutenberg Homes.  It was the time for Marc to set his own direction, that of a luxury homebuilder. Highly custom in its approach, Marc maintains a direct and personal relationship with each of his clients.

Twice winning the Grand Award of the Pinellas Parade of Homes 3 years in a row, 9 years in total, Marc’s design imagination and successful business stands at the forefront of Florida’s most dynamic homebuilders.

Today Marc is engaged in a variety of neighborhood developments and varying housing markets.  Marc has been an environmental advocate throughout his career.  His communities are benchmarks of environmental preservation and viable economic compatibility.  Now setting focus on his Zero Energy America initiative (zeroenergyamerica.com), Marc Rutenberg Homes is working to outpace to the Green Building movement, focusing the Company’s attention on energy consumption, and environmental stewardship.  In a new age of building, Marc can often be quoted as saying “we simply need to be a little more thoughtful”.
